A memory of a lifetime for John Hicks
My son, John Hicks - age 15, had the opportunity to participate in the youth spring gobbler day here in Pennsylvania. A long time local turkey hunter (Pep), a friend of our family, kindly offered to take John and teach him the right and respectful way to hunt Pennsylvania's wild turkey.
We met with Pep a few days before to discuss how things would go, safety, attire, and to simply get to know each other. Pep, being an old school gentleman, would not agree to take John until he met me and we discussed how the day would go. Needless to say he was fantastic, has many great stories and had already prepped the blind for Saturday's hunt. Situated by 5:45 AM Pep taught John that less is more when it comes to calling. Of course Pep made no guarantees of getting a bird, but by 7:15 AM John had successfully bagged his first wild turkey, the Jake in the picture.
An exciting day for both and a lifetime memory for John..
